Spherical Valve Cylinders

Janox was contracted to supply eight cylinders for a large hydroelectric dam in Northern BC. These cylinders open and close a massive ball valve, referred to as a spherical valve or a turbine inlet valve. This valve supplies flow to spin the turbine of a 100MW hydroelectric generator.

Cylinders are actuated using water from the penstock, with available system pressure provided by the head of the water in the dam reservoir. Each cylinder has an extension force of 475,000 lbs and a retraction force of 386,000 lbs.
